game

when an economist talks about games, he's usually not referring to monopoly. Here's something we played in my game theory class today. See what u make of it.

suppose u're in a group of ppl (the number of ppl doesn't matter), and that they're all as smart as u r ie. they're all rational, and can think along the same paths as u do.

each person in the group writes down a number (from 0 to 100 inclusive) on a piece of paper, without letting anyone know what number he/she wrote. Once everyone is done, someone collects the paper, adds up all the numbers, and the person whose number is closest to half of the mean of all the numbers gets a prize (say, a really big ice-cream).

what number would u write down to win?
