whatever happened to slacking?

Currently I'm rediscovering the magic of murakami. Re-reading 'Norwegian Wood', I'm utterly fascinated by his precision and elegance of prose. The words all falll into place like a delicate jigsaw. It's so immediately arresting, and it just makes me feel like reading 'Kafka on the Shore'. Unfortunately that'll depend on financial circumstances. As usual.

I was hoping for a sedate week, but all that was dashed when I got two phone calls in the space of an afternoon. Now, I have a presentation to make tomorrow morning, and a lunch appointment with a perm sec on fri. And they are both at different ministries. The feeling of inadequacy is almost overwhelming, but for the comfort of 'Norwegian Wood'. The quiet nonchalance of the book is definitely a calming influence.

If you had to make a choice between holding on to the hopes of your past, or facing the uncertain promise of the future, what would you choose?
