a grab bag of events

Guess it's a sign of distraction when I start turning up for driving lessons that I forgot to book. Thinking of all the sleep I could have gotten this morning instead of making the bleary-eyed trip to the driving centre, I can't help but feel irritated. And sleepy.

At least I managed to secure a driving test date.

This week has been pretty ok. Office-wise, things are still piling up. More and more files are landing on my desk, slowly forming new imposing mountain ranges. I'm waiting for the first avalanche.

I've been meeting more people, which is always a good thing; it certainly helps to be able to attach a face to an email address or a voice over the phone. As far as I can tell, I haven't irritated anybody I've met so far, so I don't suppose my future emails will get deleted.

If there's something I've learnt so far, it's the importance of applying leverage to get people's attention. Occasionally, letting slip some background details can help gain some measure of respect, which is always a handy currency. Unless, of course, you've just committed some kind of screwup. Like turning up for a non-existent driving lesson.
