for those who aren't into fantasy or comics, a short introduction: this is the guy whose novels include American Gods, Stardust, Neverwhere, Coraline, and who wrote the amazing Sandman series of graphic novels (of which I've recently become an ardent fan). He's won numerous prizes for his works, which have been praised by people from stephen king to norman mailer. In short, this man's a bloody genius.
