fratricide
I'm watching the staircase. I can
hear the enemy one floor below. They outnumber us six to three, and
they're planning something.
There's movement, and someone rushes
up the stairs. Without hesitation I fire a few rounds in his direction,
and then I duck for cover as he returns fire. Think I got him.
Suddenly I hear a shot, and intense
pain hits me in the shoulderblade. I turn around, and see my own
teammate, standing three metres away, rifle pointed at me. We realise
what happened at almost the same instance.
Shit. (Ouch)
paintball is pretty fun, until you get hit. It's
been 4 days, and the bruise left by the pellet still hasn't faded. And
I still can't get over the fact that I was shot by friendly forces. Oh
well, at least I didn't get hit on the lip, unlike a couple of my
platoon mates. Now I know what sausage lips look like.
I was going to extend this to some metaphor-for-life thing, but I
figured it'll sound kinda corny and besides, I don't feel like
pontificating. Too little time for it.
s'pore is in the midst of a heatwave right now. It's the kind of
temperature that reminds me of training in thailand, when you can
pespire buckets even when you're sitting down in the shade. It's also
the kind of temperature that makes me really want to a) go swimming or
b) stay at home and continuously down cold drinks or ice cream.
Unfortunately my country dictates that I have to be out training. Even
on a sunday. Sigh.
got a PSC psychometric test this coming friday. Idly wondering what
the test is about, and whether the instructors will be nice and
let me book out one day early (yeah right).
and there's something weird going on with my face. The left half feels
paralyzed, and it's getting pretty scary. I can't close my left eye
properly, I can't smile properly, and I just realised today that the
left half of my tongue is numb; I can't taste anything. Dunno what's
the cause (bug bite? muscle cramp? food allergy? stroke?!). and I'm
getting worried. This may not hurt as much as a paintball bruise, but
it's a whole lot more unsettling.
