technophobia

(I hope xiaoxian isn't reading this)

I have officially lost all rights to laugh at other ppl's misadventures with their comps and other gadgets.

spent my entire miserable afternoon trying to format my sister's comp. Theoretically, formatting a hard drive is child's play. As it turned out, I couldn't format it from win xp itself, and it took a couple of hours to figure out how to format the hard disk using the winxp cd (the BIOS turned out to be the key).

once I got past that stage, I thought it would be plain sailing, but the evil comp had other plans. After 75%, formatting the 25 GB partition became excruciatingly slow, at a rate of around 1% per 10 mins. 2 hours of waiting passed, and the comp cheerfully informed me an error had occured. Formatting had failed.

I wanted to murder it.

eventually settled for using the quick format option. Seems to be working, although I dunno what problems might be lurking underneath.

as if that experience wasn't harrowing enough, now my own comp is steadfastly refusing to load the seating plan on the cathay cinema online booking site. It's something to do with java. I've installed and re-installed the software they wanted, but the seating plan still refuses to appear. I can feel an aneurysm coming.

oh, and did I mention that all the games on my hard drive have mysteriously vanished???

I hate Murphy's Law.
