the army open house

it's fair to say describing a day at work invariably involves the use of the word 'boring' at some point or another. Today was no exception. Conditions were a bit crowded coz of Army Open House, with so many kids and teachers and soldiers wandering around. In the absence of any proper wars to fight (for which I'm eternally thankful), the SAF seems to have decided to devote its energy into organising events like AOH; much better than having to stand in waist-deep mud, no?

must say, though, that it all looks quite impressive, especially the part where the Guards come rappelling down from the helicopter and the light strike vehicles come roaring onto the parade square, accompanied by a section of guys who look like they're doing fire movement but look a bit silly cos they're shouting and running and dropping prone in the middle of the huge open ground that is the aforementioned parade square.

it looks almost cool.

of course, this being the army, there's also plenty of cringe-inducing propaganda, which may be good enough to awe secondary school kids but leaves any male who's actually been in the army feeling slightly nauseous.

another downside of AOH is that there are almost no more exercise facilities for ppl with nothing to do. The kind ppl organising it made the gym their hq, and closed the swimming pool, so now we're only left with the track. Hope they don't start holding carnivals on it tomorrow; really need the exercise and distraction.

and now my brain, having been floating around in some warm hazy pool for the last hour or so, decides to shut down.

what a strange entry.
