catching up
Haven't posted much recently, partly because there wasn't really much to say, and also because there was some kind of glitch that turned writing entries into an unbelievably excruciating, drawn-out process, like some obscure torture technique.
The glitch seems to be gone, but there's still nothing much to report. But since I'm basking in the afterglow of the endorphin rush (a really rare occurence) after SOC training (a really, really rare occurence), I might as well write a few lines to remind everyone that I'm still alive and kicking.
Update on work: things have been pretty hectic the last couple of weeks, because there were some deadlines we had to meet to submit documents for an audit (yes there are audits in the army). From the amount of paper it generates, one might think that the army is wholeheartedly focused on its sole mission: the eradication of all trees from the face of the earth. Having recently spent an inordinate amount of time traipsing around our region's forests and jungles, I must confess that the prospect sometimes seems rather appealing. Apart from the running-out-of-oxygen bit.
Still, it does feel nice to be productively occupied, even if the only long-term effect of said occupation is to make a marginal contribution to global warming. I seriously hope that my future is not going to be spent in some paper-pushing frenzy. A couple of weeks is enough for me.
Speaking of the future, there's still no word from Up High about my posting. Scuttlebutt has it that they'll inform us on Feb 1st. Maybe it's an auspicious date. Or maybe they want us to spend CNY quaking in our SAF Gore-Tex boots. Whatever. In any case I'm pretty certain that I'll end up either in MICA or MEWR. Either place seems fun, and has its own unique set of challenges, so I'm cool about heading to either one of them. Will make an announcement when I get notified, so stay tuned (how's that for a season-ending cliffhanger?).
With Feb approaching, a lot of us are already turning our thoughts to post-ORD. I'm kinda happy for the people in the unit who're going to uni, since uni is really a time when one gets to pursue virtually anything one wants. For many people it's a formative experience, and I just wonder how things will go for the guys I know. And I can't help feeling a bit jealous at all the fun they'll have. Oh well. C'est la vie.
Hmm, my few lines have mutated into a few paragraphs. Guess this is a good time to call it a day, before people start falling asleep. So that's it from me for now (cue applause). Happy CNY to all you guys!
