a whiff of old
watched '13 going on 30' today. It's one of those simple crowd-pleasers that's just about perfect for a lazy sunday. No profound messages to meditate upon, just a little fairytale to elicit a few chuckles and smiles.
how swiftly time flies. Still remember the times in jc when we would run off to orchard after (or sometimes during) school, and watch the same types of movies as the one I caught today, and in the same cinemas. But time has left its marks: the people are different now, and the places, like the 'eventful' Kopitiam at the meridien, have changed as well.
JC was in no way all fun and laughter. But looking back, I do miss the spirit of those days, when it seemed that everything was possible and opportunities were limited only by the boundaries of imagination. That sense of innocent optimism (or maybe I should call it naivete) has been worn down over time, being replaced, for the most part, by weary cynicism. Frankly, I do not think it has been a good trade.
therefore, though today's movie wasn't particularly spectacular, it was worth every cent simply because it allowed me, for an afternoon at least, to remember how it feels like to be able to face the future with courage and confidence, instead of quivering uncertainty. And what a refreshing feeling that is.
the hard part now, is making it last.
