tolkien rocks

Seems like I'm a homebody after all. Still pretty content after 3 days
at home. Of course I've had quite a bit to entertain me (eg. the entire
extended version of 'lord of the rings' on dvd - now that's what I call
an epic). To be frank, time seems to have passed quite quickly. Having
a good time I guess heh.

think I'm getting better. At least I can do a half-smile without
looking like an orc. And I think my taste buds are starting to work
again.

life is good.

oh yeah. Before I forget. Thanks for all the bday messages, which made
what seemed to be a particularly bad birthday a whole lot better. Was
really touched by zhimin's card that arrived in my letterbox on wed
afternoon right when I was feeling kinda down. Talk about perfect
timing. Thanks to all once again.

the psc job list is out. Got a whole long list but unfortunately the
documents are all classifed so can't really talk abt speciifcs. After
recent events in the s'pore blogosphere, it's probably better to be
safe than sorry (by the way, I apologize unreservedly if anything in
this or any other sentence I've ever typed anywhere anytime offends
you. Especially if you happen to be a heavyweight in some government
agency/stat board/ministry. Please don't sue me /bankrupt me/ask me to
tea).

the whole situation kind of reminds me of the siege of gondor. It's like the witch-king's predicament: lots of power (even gandalf's
afraid of him), amazingly powerful weapons at his disposal, but just so
many rich targets that he can't bring them to bear on the right ones at
the right time. One moment he's flying high (literally), the supreme
commander of the most fearsome army middle earth has seen for
millennia. Next thing he knows, his army's routed and he's dead, handed
his ass on a platter by an upstart king, a hairy halfling and a gal
half his size. Just goes to show that power isn't everything.

oops, now I've gone and done it. Better start brushing up on my tea-drinking etiquette...
